Why did I like it ?

The AvengersThe show had such a strange alluring tone. It was unlike anything I had ever seen, and I mean really different. I only saw the "Emma Peel" episodes, and she was the main reason I kept watching. I did not think she was pretty at all, but her character was alluring and mysterious. Patrick MacNee was obviously older, but he had style, charm, wit, and chivalry. The plots were so weird. I only got to see it in syndication years after it was broadcast originally, and I have to admit I often did not make it through a whole episode. It felt slow. Plodding. Not much action except in bursts. Yet I loved the feeling it had to it, so I could not help tuning in. It was like "Jonny Quest"--I would get bored and start to play with cars or army men after awhile, still with it running in the background.

What do I think now?

This is my favorite TV show of all time. It is amazing. I own every Emma Peel and Tara King season and one Cathy Gale season. All of the Emma Peel episodes still hold up so well, with such charm and weirdness. The only formula is Steed and his partner will work together to figure out some mystery. I love that one episode could be spies, the next could be murder, then conspiracy.

What does liking it say about me?

I was so endeared of the Emma Peel character, when it came to name my first-born daughter, I put "Emma" in my top three choices because of it. My wife thinks we named Emma after the Jane Austen character; I think we named her after my favorite strong female character in all of television!

Why should you watch it?

While some of the British nature of it can make it tough to figure out some of the references, the plots are so wonderfully creative and the characters are so charming and witty, this show is great for those who like their adventure with a flair of the bizarre.
